As I took my last steps inside the athletic gym of Castleberry High School, my second-home for four years, I realized how much my life had changed from when I was a freshman. The glossy maple wood floors were much more significant than any other location in my high school. This is because of the opportunities I got to experience within the band’s Color Guard program. During my four years in this program, I began to understand two ideas, that servant leadership is a component of being part of a true community, and that my “family” is my community in which I serve. I did not realize how limited my definition of “family” was. Throughout my sophomore year of high school, I joined Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America, which helped me better understand the quality of working together. The more organizations joined, the more I grew as a person. At the beginning of my junior year of high school, I was inducted into National Honor Society, became Color Guard captain, and historian for the band. Many of the volunteer activities done were band related, like hosting fundraisers, which gave me opportunities to work more with our community and meet new faces. I also spent my time volunteering in the science club at Castleberry Elementary school every Tuesday during my senior year. Furthermore, now that I am in Tarrant County College, I was recognized on the Dean’s list for the fall of 2017. This achievement brought me an opportunity to become part of Phi Theta Kappa for the spring of 2018. In addition, I was granted the positon of Parliamentarian within the Student Government Association for the upcoming 2018-2019 school
