Principle Summary and Application As a Family Life Educator it is important to know and understand the principles associated with being a FLE. There are fourteen principles to discuss and understand as you begin your career as an educator. The principle of order is the first step as an educator. This principle requires the educator to understand the laws of development and nature and then apply them to the situation. As a Family Life Educator, this principle can be applied to my professional life by looking for positive outcomes for the family I work with. Life in general is a big movement. We must move through life to get to our long and short term goals. As a Family Life Educator, I can teach my students that change can be used as their ally. If the student makes changes to their life, and study hard they can in turn receive better grades for a brighter future. Goodness is the next principle. Goodness means to show compassion toward others. This meaning that to show compassion toward a patient or student will build a healthy successful relationship with that person. All educators need to be compassionate. The principle of chaos is next. Life can be chaotic, but that is what makes it an adventure. Things will not always go perfectly, and when you expect perfection you will usually be disappointed. I must apply this to my life when I am working with others. I can learn from the imperfections and know what to do differently. Chaos will lead to the principle of readiness for change. Change happens when those around you are mentally and emotionally ready to grow and feel safe and valued. Professionally, I must develop trust with my students and parents. Once I have gained that trust, we can work together to better relationships and work on changes that will better the life of the student. Discovery is learning from personal experiences and others. As an educator, I do not know everything about a problem so I must turn to others in some cased to fix that problem. Each person, whether it is the client or other educators, can bring unique tools to the table to solve a problem. If I was unsure on how to handle a certain situation, I can turn to another person for help. It never hurts to ask for help which in turns leads you to the principle of synergy. Synergy is working with others to discover possibilities that you would not discover on your own. I should work with others and draw conclusions on how things should be handled to become a better Family Life Educator. As an educator, the principle of legacy is important. My well-being is focused on helping others. If I was to live for myself in this profession, I would not have the satisfaction that comes with helping others and will not be a useful educator. As a professional, my drive should be helping others. The last principle is the principle of evil. This principle helps the educator to remember that there is potential for evil in everyone. If compassion and nurturing behavior are absent, bad behavior can occur. This can apply to my professional life by looking at the person I am working with and knowing when to refer them to a mental health care
