Let me ask you this, what comes to mind when you think of music? For me it’s apart of life, it has such a huge impact on the way we view our world and ourselves. This gives a sort of power to musicians and artists to control some of the ways we act and behave. I’m here to talk to you today about the sexualization among artists in music and the type of impact it has on us.

This epidemic comes from the idea that “sex sells”. Which basically means that someone can use suggestive imagery or traits to gain a profit. So popular figures such as singers, will include certain things in their music to come off as more appealing. Sometimes this gets out of hand and you have things such as very suggestive music videos to anything like some of the migos lyrics. So why should we care if Britney likes to sing “I’m not so innocent”? Well it turns out with every new generation comes a new acceptance of what is right and what is wrong. Allow me to explain, I’m sure when we were all kids we didn’t get out first phone since we were in ours teens. Now, we all complain how our 3 year old nephew has an ipad. What does this have to do with music? This creates a whole new learning environment for these kids and they become predisposed to the world around them. I think the same type of organization needs to be put together to regulate music in the same way. The main difficulty with this is the unlimited, virtually free, access to music we have now. With this in mind some sights, such as YouTube have an age restriction on videos. This age restriction is only set to 18 and is not very in-depth nor is it regulated and definitely could be improvised upon.
