heila Bernard was the only child born to her parents, Sheila lived in Chelm, Poland. Before the war, Sheila´s family was very close, her family owned a large building on Lubelska Street, and Sheila’s father ran a Singer Sewing Machine business. When the Ghettos were created where she lived her family, aunts, uncles, and their cousins/children were all forced to live in a small apartment together. The early stages of the Holocaust were horrible, food was insufficient. Sheila´s father and two other men escaped to the Soviet Union and left her and her family for the worse. After hearing that the Nazis were going to kill Jews, including women and children, Her father made an effort to come back but both he and Sheila’s uncle were killed by the Nazis while attempting to come back to Chelm. …show more content…

Many times when the Nazis invaded Shelia’s apartment killing the other children and her Aunt. Her Mother was worried that Shelia might be killed in future raids. So Sheila´s mother bribed a guard to sneak Shelia out of the ghetto and have her hide in the grass of the factory where her Mother worked. A family-friend Chizuk helped her and her mother hide in a potato shed and also a chicken coop, Sheila was lucky enough to survive because her Mother bribed the guard. Shelia Bernard is a survivor of World War ll. At the age of eleven, she immigrated to Israel. Later in Isreal, She met her husband there and later had a daughter of her own. This took place in 1947. Later she immigrated to the United States in 1963. Sheila Bernard did not speak up about influencing her story, she just lived to tell it, meaning she didn´t create big protests or events to highlight the Holocaust, just simply say how she lived through
