Cocaine derives from the coca plant that can be found in South America. The coca plant is one of the most potent stimulants in history.
The coca plant was used three thousand years before the birth of Jesus, ancient Incas used to chew the leaves to get their heart racings and to speed their breathing to counter the effects of living in the mountains. The coca plant was never used as a recreational use for pleasure or escape it was either used for acclimation or religious/ritual purposes. Cocaine was first isolated( extracted from the coca plant) in 1859 by German chemist Albert Niemann. Cocaine was not at first considered very popular not until the 1880’s. Cocaine also affects the brain just as much as the heart. Euphoria, anxiety, violent behavior, and panic attacks all are some of the effects of cocaine on the brain and how it affects the abusers emotions.
Cocaine has severe consequences such as lost sense of smell, nasal damage, death of bowel tissue, decreased blood flow, and loss of weight due to decreased of appetite. Cocaine of a long period of time affects every bodily system. Not only does cocaine have major health risks it also has huge law risks, when caught with less than a gram of cocaine it is a felony in the state of Texas and can have the consequences of can be up to 2 years in prison and $10,000 in fines. If you are in the possession of 1 to 3.99 grams of cocaine that is a 3rd degree felony in the state of Texas, spending 2 to 10 years and a fine of $10,000. In Texas when in the possession of 4 grams to 199 grams that is considered a 2nd degree felony facing 20 years in prison with a $10,000 fine. When it is between 200 grams to 400 grams of cocaine it is either considered a 1st degree felony or an enhanced 1st degree felony and possibly facing 10 to 99 years with a fine of $100,000.
