No matter one’s profession, people are extraordinarily hardworking in their respective industries and deservedly receive payment for it. This includes jobs ranging from janitors and waitresses to doctors and lawyers. The prevailing point is that no matter what a person does, they work and their employer compensates them. Recently, there has been great discussion about the possibility of paying college athletes. Many question if athletes who compete in a college sport should receive payment for all they accomplish. When a student athlete participates in a college sport, it consumes much of their life, and they do not have much time to engage in anything else. Each athlete’s respective sport consumes nearly all of their time, whether it is practice, games, or film. However, this is not true considering most of these athletes’ dreams are still to become a professional and acquire large amounts of money. Individual people who are not for this also like to mention how a high amount of these athletes already have their college paid for, and they ask what more could athletes actually need. This is true as they have their college paid for, but, as stated previously, they do not have the time to maintain a steady-income job. Lastly, people like to say that this will be unfair on the grounds that the teams with the most money will accumulate all of the highly-rated players. This is not necessarily true, as not every player can attend a top school such as Alabama. These kids want to advance to the next level by going where they are going to draw the most attention. All of these might be strong, debatable arguments, but, in the end, these athletes deserve payment or, at worst, a modest
