Should College Athletes be Paid? For years the NCAA has been investigating and handing down punishments to schools who pay their athletes, but why. Amounts of money and other incentives have been handed athletes way for years and primarily to stand out football stars. On-going investigations have troubled relationships with schools and the NCAA for years. Its an uphill battle for both sides, which the NCAA has proved at the end of the day they always win. College athletes do not deserve to be paid. The average of a full, in-state public school scholarship is $15,000 a year. Without these scholarships, many student athletes would not be able to pursue their academic goals. At the end of the day whatever brings in money should be paid for, and the same goes for any other business out there. No one is saying athletes should be getting millions in contracts but universities should pay them just like they would for any other student working a part-time job in the library, admissions office or cafeteria. Out side of the gym, court or field athletes aren't provided with the free time a student is leaving them minimum time to actually hold a job, making sports their full time occupation. For almost every athlete the professional level and big money salaries is the end goal, but how many of college level athletes can compete at the worlds highest level right out of highschool. Athletes who are good enough to earn money in their sport are good enough to leave their school for pro-level, most if not all of college athletes are either using their college years to develop their abilities, and to also finish out their education and get a degree, if not both, before taking a shot at the pros, where they may not collect more than two paychecks after injury sidelines
