Should College Athletes Receive Compensation? Athletics have been a fixture in the lives of many for numerous years, but a branch of sports that is certainly on the rise is collegiate athletics. With the growing popularity in NCAA’s March Madness Basketball Tournament, the College Football Playoff, and the College World Series, Collegiate athletes have never had such fame. The biggest stars not only collect media attention and fans across the country, but they also help their universities profit off of their success. Since the NCAA is producing more money than it ever has, why should athletes continue to be left dry? NCAA athletes should receive compensation because they spend countless hours practicing and completing school work, universities are making more money than ever, and athletes literally place their bodies on the line. First of all, NCAA athletes should be paid because of the work they put into their sport and studies. Athletes not only spend hours practicing and weight lifting, but they are also expected to go to class and perform well in their studies. Collegiate sports are producing revenue at an all-time high, and the colleges with the best sports programs are benefitting the most. If a particular university wins the national championship, they receive millions upon millions of dollars. The athletes that actually competed and performed at the highest level will get absolutely nothing. If collegiate athletes are considered adults by law, then why does the NCAA not recognize this? If an athlete makes it to a professional league, such as the NFL, then the sport they play is considered their job.
