Should the NCAA fork out more for your college athlete on top of everything else they are receiving? This question has been a very controversial topic. There should be no reason for the push for athletes to get paid like they are professionals of some sort when they already have the opportunity to pursue an education and to play the sport they love. They are called student athletes for a reason. College athletes should not be paid because of education purposes, scholarships, and financial problems.
If college athletes got paid the care for their education would decrease. The thought “I am still getting paid so I can skip class” will occur in their heads. This would make them employees. So then the purpose of college, to get an education, would be defeated. Grades would decrease and the title “student athlete” would be nonsense. Athletes would not be trying as hard in the education field and that will affect the college.

A scholarship which pays for their education and the sport they have a strong desire for. Adding pay to this will lead to difficulty for a lot of things. It’s unlikely of all sports getting paid the same because some are more moneymakers then others. “Over all the divisions of NCAA athletics, there are over 450,000 athletes in all sports. To pay athletes, colleges would have to cut other sports teams or something along those lines to pay every athlete” (March Madness Fans).Also female and male sports are not perceived as the same so there would be a difference in pay which would add along to one of the many problems. March Madness brings in around 900 million a year according to CBS news. Since these basketball players are bringing in more money than other sports then in theory they would make a higher income.
