College sports has been around for years in the United States, with thousands of student-athletes going in and out of college. Some students move on to become successful lawyers, surgeons, and politicians, and others continue with their sport into the professional ranks. College sports are becoming intensely popular as time rolls on, especially the prime college sports of men's basketball and football. In fact, in a survey issued by Harris Interactive in 2014, 45% of Americans say they follow college sports. That is millions of fans around the country buying college merchandise, going to college athletic games, and watching the sports on their TVs at home. The motivation of the athletes in college sports is what makes it special. These college students are living their dreams of being able play sports in college. They want to play because they love the game, and they want to enjoy everything that comes with it, such as the incredible teammates you play with that become lifelong friends. However, all of this emotion would be doused if colleges were to be compensating their students. Instead of students playing for their dreams, memories, and friends, they would be playing for a paycheck. This would delete the emotion of the game, and actually make college sports become less prominent in the public eye. Also, it should be an honor to play college sports! "For every high school athlete that dreams of playing in college, about 7 percent go on to do it. Furthermore, only 2 percent of these people play in a Division 1 school"(Anderson). It is an incredible opportunity to play college sports not just because it is at a high level, but because not many people even get to do it. Millions of kids dream of playing sports in college, and the few student-athletes that get the opportunity should appreciate and cherish it, because they are taking the dream of a plethora of kids. Paying student athletes would just ruin the integrity of the emotional, hard-working game of college sports, thus destroying the best part of the whole institute of college sports as a
