Imagine if when you were choosing your college decision you thought of which school was going to pay you the most for you to play there. How, would this change your opinion on the school of whether or not you would decide to go there. College athletes should not be paid to play for schools because being paid could affect their college decisions, athletic scholarships already pay for tuition and board, and allowing schools to pay players would eventually lead to top divisions creating a monopoly of talent at a high level.

The average college tuition alone is $37,640. The average board cost for a college is $10,800 this covers room and meal plans. The total cost for college on average is $48,440 in which could be considered the athletes salary. The student is being paid roughly $50,000 which is what some current employees make for a yearly wage. Another possibility is that the athlete could be paid an hourly wage. This would be very inconsistent due to the possibility of injury or illness causing the inability to keep persistent income. Without having a constant income this could affect their person lives by not being able to pay bills or other payments they have to make causing a difficult life. That amount is not including room and board which is $41,569,200 with the total being $228,014,760. Another argument about who should be paid more is that football and men’s basketball bring in more revenue for schools so those athletes should be paid more. This is not fair to those of other programs who are considered top athletes within their program so they should be considered equal to those of other programs. Some people say that the athletes are the ones who do the work so they should being paid not the coaches.
