In high schools today, there are vast amounts of diversity which include the student’s cultures, identities, and beliefs. Even though this is the case individuals may feel that their beliefs are being pushed away as if they are insignificant due to the fact that the curriculums may push conflicting views on them. One example of this would be the teachings of the theory of evolution and how they stifle the beliefs of creationists or vise versa. Some individuals may feel as if being taught the theory that opposes their beliefs is wrong, and should ultimately be banned from schooling since they believe that the theory is false. Since this is the case teachers must cultivate respect for all students in respect to their personal beliefs and how they feel about a subject. While it is important to teach certain theories to students it is also important to respect a student’s beliefs and not use what they believe against them. I personally feel that both creationism and evolution should be taught in high school and equally. In my high school no one was ever offended by the teaching of evolution and not much was said regarding creationism. It’s not that our school neglected religion, as a large amount of our school had practiced Christianity. Instead the community embraced education and had learned about other theories regardless of their beliefs. It seemed as if the student population was accepting of the education and had no issue with its content. Also, I feel that the community was more accepting of different beliefs since it is a small, tight-knit community where nothing is kept secret and the people are widely accepting due to the small
