Marijuana is perceived as a substance that causes a lot of harm and cannot help anyone at all in any way but more studies are showing that it has a positive effect when used medically. The possibility of it being legalised in New Zealand is getting higher everyday with more people seeing the positive effects that come from it; and some even wanting to use it for themselves or their family around them. Medical marijuana should be legalised so that patients can have it as an option, it should not be legalised as a smoking substance when given out medically but instead for cannabis based products i.e. oils, sprays, and or tablets. There are many options to make this so called “totally harmless” product less harmless and more helpful for the user.

When people think of medical marijuana they think of all the negatives to do with smoking instead. Some people do use the natural cannabis that you smoke to treat their health problems but in New Zealand that has not happened, and there are health risks when you do this as you are smoking. There are products made by extracting compounds from cannabis plants and the term medical marijuana actually refers to using the whole unprocessed marijuana plant or its basic extracts to treat a disease or symptom. If more studies were done to help prove the positive effects of medical marijuana the public could be educated correctly by being told that they themselves or their family, or even friends, do not have to directly smoke the plant for these positive outcomes and that it is one of the other options out there to
