Today, people in the United States are trying to eat more healthy food. The United States is know for its issues with obesity and many people are trying to cut back on their calorie intake, not only at home but also when they go to resturants. To try in aid in this effort, resturants should be required to display nutritional information on thier menus. It would be beneficial to the customers and the resturant.

The customers have a right to know what is in their food. Packaged food in the grocery store has nutrition information in it by law so that people know what they are consuming. There is little difference between that and the food in resturants besides the cooking. The ingredients are the same and, while cooking does change the nutritional values, many common processes have known effects on nutritional value. Just as people have the choice to know what is in the food that they buy from the grocery store, they should be able to find out what is in the food they buy from resturants. …show more content…

Many restruants are already begining to do this, especially in areas that are more health conscious. Often it is resturants that have healthier options or want to use it as a marketing point but the transisiton to nutritional infromation being avalible is already being made. Requiring resturants to display such infromation is only facilitating the inevitable at this point. Whether for marketing or for good intentions, this increases the competition between resturants in a good way since healthy options can only benifit more people. Those with healthier options will have increased business and those without will try to make their options healthier to attract more
