Should Romeo And Juliet Be Taught In Schools Essay

Have you ever read a book and were confused the entire time? Most teenagers in America struggle to learn Romeo and Juliet because of the old English language and structure of it. “I feel that some students at the high school levels do not respect and take his works very seriously. Shakespeare's works are profound and some people can't understand it” (createdebate). Romeo and Juliet is shown in many different places around the world because of its captivating words and use of imagery. Many people appreciate the love story and understand the language but most 9th graders have no idea what is being spoken. Some people believe that Romeo and Juliet should be taught to 9th graders, in reality, 9th graders should not be taught Romeo and Juliet because of its confusing old English and a terrible influence on students.

It's hard enough to get students to do their work and will be even harder when they aren't interested in doing it. Students want to read about things going on in their lives, stuff they can relate to and not something that doesn't interest them”. For this reason, students have a hard time understanding what they are learning and it does not interest them.
