Sports in college plays a crucial role on every student in one way or the other, even though most argue college athletes are not treated fairly but to some athletes, they are content with the spirit, the pride, loyalty and memories of the game. Being a student athlete to me, it is a great opportunity and achievement although variety of participant in the industry argue that there is no need of paying college athletes because they might have to pay tax while others argue otherwise. Some articles refer more specifically to my research question in regards to legal implications. For example, Joel Bush in "Student or Professional Athlete - Tax Implications in the United States if College Athletes were to be Classified as Paid Employees” published in Labor Law Journal in 2017, argues that a student-athlete paid a salary would owe $23,800 in federal income tax and $6,700 in state taxes, …show more content…

While Some articles address the exploitation aspect of student athletes lack of payment. For example, Christopher W. Haden, in "Foul! the Exploitation of the Student-Athlete: Student Athletes Deserve Compensation for their Play in the College Athletic Arena." Published in The Journal of Law and Education published in 2018. Support generous monthly stipends, which can guarantee the coverage of sport related medical issues. Those who support pay – for – play argue that the universities control the players and their scholarships which includes tuition, books, room and board benefits.
