Imagine your sitting there in class doing a test and you hear on the announcements that a shooter is in the building. You and your classmates turn off the lights and hide in the back of the class. You then start hearing people screaming and running outside in the hallway. Then the door opens up and the gunman is in your classroom. He turns the gun on the teacher then on to the students. Its horrible to think about but that is the sad truth. But imagine now that the teacher has a firearm now the gunman is down and the students and teachers run out of the school to safety. Guns could also deter people from trying anything like that. Also the teachers would be able to protect the students a lot easier with a firearm. That’s why I think teachers should carry firearms.
One of my reasons for saying this is that it could help save teacher and students lives. If a gunman was trying to shoot up the school any of the teachers could lock themselves in the room with their students and have a gun pointed at the door to try and save lives. If a teacher didn’t have a gun they would be hopeless and have to just sit there in the dark and wait for the cops. One thing that the opposing side says about why teachers shouldn’t have firearms is that it would cost a lot of money to get firearms for all the teachers. I think that this argument is invalid because what would be a cheaper option? Do you to hire 5 security guards with a salary of 16,000 dollars a year with totals up to 80,000 a year just for security guards alone?
