The movie “The Taming of the Shrew,” by Franco Zeffirelli, is based on the play by Shakespeare. At the beginning of the movie, Katherine is always jealous of her younger sister Bianca. She feels that Bianca is more loved by their father than she is. She acts horribly towards everyone so that no one will marry her, because Bianca can’t be married until Katherine is. Then Petruchio came along and agreed to marry Katherine, even though he had never met her before. She hated him for thinking that she would come willingly to marry him. After she ran from him for a while he eventually caught up to her and announced that they would be married. Then right after the wedding he was going to leave with or without her for his home. She reluctantly followed them through the rain back to his own land. On the trip, the donkey upon which she was riding fell into a creek, soaking her and her luggage. Petruchio laughed and continued on without helping her. Katherine hated the way that he treated her. When they finally arrived at his home he had the servants make a dinner for him and his wife. Before they ate they all prayed, and when Katherine tried to eat before Petruchio was done praying he knocked the food from her hand. Then he became enraged and knocked all the food from the table when he saw the chicken was not cooked all the way, leaving Katherine still hungry. He took Katherine to bed, she would not let him sleep in the bed with her so he went downstairs to drink. That night Katherine cried for a little, then she had a plan. She hated that her father loved Bianca more than he loved her. She was always angry and was always having a fit breaking things and attacking people that tried to get her to calm down. Then came Petruchio who was willing to marry her and she hated him because if she was married then Bianca could. After he forced her to marry him she hated him even more, especially when she saw that he only married her for the money that he received from her father. Back at Petruchio’s home he didn’t let Katherine eat when they arrived, even though she was hungry. The morning after their wedding Petruchio woke up to Katherine and the servants cleaning the house. When they received an invite from Bianca to come to her wedding, Katherine wanted to go, but Petruchio made her agree with him no matter what he said for them to be able to go. He said they would leave at 7:00, even though it was not. Katherine told him that he was wrong, so Petruchio said that they would not go to the wedding. Eventually Katherine realized what was going on and agreed with him that it was 7:00. While traveling along the road they stopped to get a drink, where a man passed by and Petruchio said that he was a woman. Katherine agreed and greeted the man as if he was actually a woman, eventually they treated him as a man and they went on their way. At the wedding she always agreed with him no matter what he said. The men had a bet to see
