The artist that wrote the song for my music project is called song Simani. I thought I’d tell you about the artist first so you could get a bit of backstory on the song “Music and Friends” or any other songs you have heard by Simani. Simani is a duo band (two members) who focus their music on their Newfoundland and Labrador culture that they were raised in. The band had come together in 1977 with members Bud Davidge and Sim Savory. Sim was a kind hardworking man who never gave up through all the struggles in his life. His was a great musician and you could tell it was his passion. Bud was a strong minded man who was also very kind. He was also best friends with Sim and nothing could break that bond. This wasn’t the only studio though. Their first couple of albums were indeed recorded at Clode Sound in Stephenville. Their first album that they had created was Saltwater Cowboys made in 1981. Those gave them more publicity in Eastern Canada. This lead them to make many more albums: in 1982 Heaven and Sea, in 1985 Outport people and Christmas Fancy, in 1986 Two for the Show, in 1987 Music and Friends (which is the album that has my song in it), in 1990 they came back with Chapel Walls, then in 1991 with Some things I cherish, in 1992 with Home and Native Land, then in 1993 with another Christmas album Ooh! Christmas Tree, then in 1994 Promises, then finally in 1997 with their last album Ye Can't Have Joe Smallwood... and Ye Can't Have John Cabot. They made music after that for a bit after their finally album but then stopped after around 20 years of making music. Part of the reason there was need to stop was because of Sim Savory’s long going illness effecting him.
