There are six principles underlying DEC Recommended Practices. In this assignment I will discuss the six principles and show how I would incorporate these practices in the curriculum. The first principle is the educational experience should be family-based. The family is an essential aspect in the life of a child and their development. Having the family involve enables growth and development for the child. The family input is important, this means the curriculum should be created to respond to family’s goals, outcomes and priorities. This means early education special education professional should always have wisdom and evidence in the field and the family. The professional should examine current practices and procedures to ensure their effective towards the child and their families. My curriculum would have an on going review through out the year to ensure that it is effective on each child in my classroom. I choose on-going because I can always make changes or revisions to ensure that the children in the classroom is getting the best support and education. The third principle is educational experiences should provide for cultural responsiveness. Cultural backgrounds should be incorporated into the curriculum. An appropriate education experience is critical with a child’s background and culture. Knowing the child and their family is essential and this information will enable me to incorporate cultural responsiveness in the curriculum. For example, if most of my classroom celebrate Christmas but some celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa I will make sure in my curriculum all holidays are included for all the children in my …show more content…

These assessments are DAYC (Develop Assess Young Children) curriculum base test, 5 Ps (Parent, Professional, Preschool, Performance, Profile) motor development scale and cognitive development scale, Westby symbolic play scale, teacher observation, parent interview, and Lapd (Learning accomplish Profile) standardize test. Lapd is only used if the school district request or is approved. The teacher does on-going assessments throughout the school year on all the children. There are quarterlies done for each child. These quarterlies go over each child specific goals. Each child has a IEP that are done yearly. The IEP review on the child will reveal if the child has improved and to see if the child need services for the next school year. The teacher does on going assessments to see any if issues will need to be addressed on that child’s IEP and/or goals. The teacher also works with her team to observe each child and work on each child
