For the last six years, I have a part of a wonderful organization called SkillsUSA. I have worked my way through every position in the SkillsUSA Organization. From first becoming a basic member through middle school and high school. Then, becoming a Mid-America officer and local chapter officer. As the Local Chapter President, my duty is to convey information and motivate members towards their career goals. This means I assist in preparing them for their state competitions, host socials, and get members involved. Also, I am one of seven state officers, out of a nearly 3,000 student members statewide, which I am especially proud of. This position allows me to lead others on large scale and assist in creating the future workforce. My solution is called Jump Into STEM!, which is a free curriculum that exposes middle school and elementary students to STEM-related careers. During this years SkillsUSA Nebraska Fall Leadership Conference, I used my state officer position to convey this solution to over 500 students and advisors. Another state officer and I created a fifteen minute session that exposed high school students the benefits of Jump Into STEM!, how it works, how to implement it, and the skills that can be gained. We presented this information and then gave them the opportunity to be the elementary or middle school students. This is one of many ways I have utilized Jump Into STEM! in my community. Overall, this curriculum allows students to gain skills, such as workplace skills, personal skills, and technical skills grounded in academics. Not only do students young as first graders gain lifelong skills, but also students as old as post-secondary students.
