Throughout my high school career, I have been merited with many awards and opportunities. During my Junior year of school, I was selected to go to Washington DC on the CloseUp trip. The selection process was very stringent. First and foremost, we had to write an essay stating why we wanted to go to CloseUp, and what it would mean for us to get selected. Furthermore, our grades were a large part of the selection process- if we could not balance our work with the trip, and keep our grades up, we were ineligible. Additionally, the teacher going on the trip with us, had to make sure that we were “socially adequate” for the trip. Because we would be meeting frequently to talk about politics, and other current events, he had to be assured we were thinking before we were speaking and being, responsible, respectful, cooperative, kind, and socially acceptable people. …show more content…

SkillsUSA is a nationwide organization that “empowers its’ members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens”- SkillsUSA Mission Statement. During both my Junior and Senior year, I have been involved in SkillsUSA’s Quiz Bowl. This is where a team of five students come together to represent their school at the Quiz Bowl. During Quiz Bowl, we get quizzed on anything from SkillsUSA trivia, to math, to world history. They have quite the plethora of questions! Both during my Junior and Senior year we went to States. At States during my Junior year we won Bronze. The results to this year’s State Competition is yet to be determined because they don’t occur until the last week of
