Personal Narrative: My Sleep Patterns In My Life

Throughout the week my sleep patterns have varied. A few of the nights I sleep great and got over eight hours of sleep, and four of the days I got less than six hours of sleep. I noticed during the week on the nights I have a lot of homework, I do not get a ton of sleep, and the nights I don’t have a lot of homework I tend to get more. The night I get the most sleep is Friday night into Saturday morning because that is my day to sleep in. During the week, I get up early for either work or school, and on Sundays I get up early for church. For the past couple weeks, I have been trying to go to bed earlier so I can get more sleep at night but when I lay down even though I’m tired I cannot fall asleep. I have had many dreams that I have tried to interpret into real life events to see if its God sending me signs about what to do in my life. Sometimes I even have two or three dreams in one night all taking place in different places. During the week, I find myself not remembering a lot of the dreams I had the night before, but on Sunday night I had a nightmare that I was being chased by someone, and they just kept getting closer, no matter how fast I ran they were always right on my back. I felt like I had been being chased all night long, until finally they caught up to me and that’s when I woke up from my sleep. I think the reason I was having this dream is because I had so much to get done that week and I just felt like I was not going to have enough time to finish it all, and during this dream I knew I was dreaming but I could not wake myself up. This type of dream is an example of lucid dreams meaning the person is aware they are in a dream when it is happening. On Tuesday night, I had a dream that my house was burning down in the middle of the night, and I was trapped inside and I couldn’t get out. After I have this dream and wake up I get out of bed a search my house to make sure this is no fire, because even though I know it was a dream my mind tricks me into thinking I smell smoke. Being trapped in a fire has always been one of my biggest fears in life, I seem to have this nightmare a lot and I think I have it because I am scared for it to happen in real life. This is an example psychodynamic dreaming meaning this happened or I had a fear of this happening when I was a child. I have nightmares at least
