Both the Social cognitive theory and behaviourism theory have implications in which affect adolescences learning in secondary school classrooms. It is how teachers take into action these theories that adolescences are affected by these implications positively or negatively. As well as these, motivational issues also influence the learning of adolescence and in addition their academic achievement. The Social Cognitive Theory and Behaviourism state that feedback is important and that experience is significant in learning. They also both include reinforcement and punishment however are interpreted differently. It acknowledges the abilities of the individual, the general rules in which are observed affecting both learning as well as imitation. For secondary teachers, this type of learning can be used to explain a wide variety of behaviours. I find this theory influential as social skills begin with the way the teacher models things for the class. Students watch how teachers act and will emulate the things done in a number of ways. For example, a technology secondary teacher applying this theory in the classroom would model for the students how to set up the sewing machine properly. This will therefore show the students exactly what is expected of them as well. Even though they both see this as important, the interpretations are very different. Behaviourism says that reinforces and punishers are direct causes of behaviour by the individual whereas the Social Cognitive Theory is more so that reinforcers and punishers cause expectations. Thus it is evident that although both theories look into reinforcement and punishment, the way they are interpreted by the theorists and there importance are different. Both theories view behaviour being affected by the environment. Behaviourism states that the environment is the only cause of behaviour. On the other hand the Social Cognitive Theory suggests that not only the environment affects behaviour but also behaviour and personal factors all affect behaviour equally.
