Essentially according to Gary, The Thank You Economy is way larger than social media. The Thank You Economy is about the completely transformed consumer culture and society. Though social media is the “now” something else will arrive. As Gary says, ““What will not change, however, is the culture- the expectation-of communication, transparency and connection that social media revived.” Even socially, it is more ethical to allow giving a voice and the power of say to the people and the consumers. No matter what technological revolution will happen, which it is bound to, the consumer culture has marked an economic turnpoint. He even says, “Culture changes, and business has to change with it or die.” The issue and the main reason why companies don’t, even though they are fully aware of that, is because in American corporate culture, the prioritization of profit over principle quickly takes over and is what shapes the perspective of many of today’s business leaders. People are simply in denial. They are aware that culture is shifting yet find it hard to go with the flow.
