Social Media are websites and applications that allow people to create and share information. Social Media has been the biggest turning point of the century, but it has also become a big problem to this century as well. With people being able to share their opinions, it has effected voting, the view of our government, and organization of riots and protests. With these top 3 important topics I believe that social media is a big threat to the American Democracy. Voting is a huge part of our government, it helps us pick the right person for positions in local, state and federal governments. Some people are not interested in politics and rely others to stay informed regarding what is going on with our government and the current issues in politics. Unfortunately, these people are usually misinformed and given false information. There are links and websites on social media that contain rumors about political leaders, things that are going to happen to our society, and all a mixture of lies and truth. ( Satterfield ) You can really never know what is the actual truth unless you hear it from the person themselves. People not being able to agree on different subjects is a good thing because there is brings diversity, but when you ask for there feedback sometimes it is not all that good ( Murse ). When one person give you feedback you are not going to know if it will be positive or negative. Of course, we all want good feedback but that not always the case. The negative feedback comes from the people that read the fake news sites and start to believe that it is true. If people start to believe the negative comments, then that is going to affect that persons self image and can cause self doubt, and feelings that they are unfit for the position that they are in ( Satterfield
