Reflective Essay: Social Work A social worker is a profession concerned with helping individuals, families, groups, and communities with their well-being. I spent a day job shadowing at Medi- Lodge of Taylor. I took on the experience alone and shadowed a woman who is experienced in her field named Jennifer Williams. From this experience I learned many things to help expand my future.
There are several different practice skills that social workers can be influence to meet their goals. Problem solving skill, cognitive behavioral skill and psychodynamic theory skill just to name a few. Problem solving assists the clients with problems. Social worker teaches clients how to develop their own solutions. Cognitive behavioral focus on the fact workers assists the clients in identifying patterns of irrational and self-destructive thoughts and behaviors.
The basic purpose of social work is to help individuals improve the quality of their lives. Social work is a helping profession and, resultantly, social workers are oftentimes referred to as change agents. They empower individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations to reach their full potential and enable them to make the necessary changes in their lives. They encourage clients to be self-determined and reinforce their ability to change and to focus on their own needs. What is your understanding of the social work profession? My life experiences with professional social workers have been with individuals working in many different fields in various capacities. Despite coming from diverse backgrounds, those people all had one characteristic in common; humanitarianism. Social workers are compelled to serve others in an empathetic and encouraging way while facilitating positive changes in their clients lives.
I am a person who likes to communicate with different kinds of people. Meanwhile, observate people is very interesting in the social life. For this reason, I chose Sociology in my undergraduate study to understand the relationship between human and social development. For my future career, I am looking forward to the particular jobs that are related to make communication with people. After graduating from California State University, Los Angeles (CalSateLA), I gained my first job as a social work assistant at the Adult Day Health Care Center.
