There are about 260 members of Tri Delta at the University of Nevada, Reno. In order to be a member of Tri Delta, there is a huge process called Rush Week, where you basically speed date all the sororities on campus to see and find out which one fits you. According to Allison Baeulieu, an active sorority sister of mine, “a Tri Delta is a woman who is honest, reliable, selfless, and who can step up to the plate and take credible action to our chapter”. I respect that in this chapter only welcomes girls that carry themselves with grace and class. Every sorority in Tri Delta makes a big picture of the Fraternity.
The purpose of this paper is to review and analyze student cultures in the book Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, by Alexandra Robbins. The book provides a glimpse of the historically white national sorority system and investigates their secret group behavior. In the United States and Canada, approximately 800 institutions host social Greek Life on their campuses (Long, 2012). These chapters within the Greek Life system promote the ideals of scholarship, leadership, service, and friendship. However, in the Robbins’ book and narrative of a sorority illustrates sorority life and negative realities of that system, such as rush, bid, racism, pledging, initiation, Greek Week, breaks-up and sexual assaults.
The initial reason I became interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was due to the relationships I had built with two exceptional women, who coincidently are members of this illustrious sorority. I am immeasurably grateful to my village of supporters who have guided me to my achievements thus far, but most importantly to the Academic Dean of Cranbrook Horizon Upwards Bound, Ms. Brenda Gatlin and high school Guidance Counselor, Ms. Tracey Penick. Since and throughout my high school matriculation I have always been a strategic goal orientated scholar.
And more. This school has some sororities including: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Kappa Psi, Zeta Tau Zeta, Alpha Lambda, and many more great ones. At Occidental College there is more than 100 student organizations, or in other words clubs. One of the most popular club there is the GLEE club.
The first notable member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated that really sticks out to me is Umzae George Washington Carver. He was initiated in the Gamma Chapter in the year of 1918. To begin I selected him, because he was a very familiar name. I remember learning about Umzae George Washington Carver in the elementary and middle school. With creating over 100 different uses for the peanut, soybean, and sweat potato he was a very prominent African American man in the 1920s.
Starting college is a stressful process and a big change. College students worry about meeting tons of people and making new friends. Some students decide to go through sorority recruitment in order to find lifelong friends and sisters. Others go through recruitment to find people who accept them for being unique. College students find their home when finishing sorority recruitment.
One of the main questions that each freshman asks their selves when coming to college is, “Should I rush a fraternity or a sorority, and what are the benefits?” People hear the stereotypes more than they hear the positive aspects. Many individuals have the wrong idea when it comes to sororities and fraternities. There is much more to Greek life than what people portray it to be. People portray Greek life as if one is paying for his or her friends, hazing takes place, and everyone is just partiers.
One thing that struck me as I read The Death of King Arthur was how the tradition of honor superseded reason, sense, and even national stability. In the beginning of the story this phenomenon is demonstrated by Arthur’s decision to have Guinevere burnt, even though it meant that the nation and roundtable would be broken by the alienation of Sir Lancelot and his kith and kin. Honor dictated that an unfaithful queen should be burn, so she was burnt, despite the wise advice of moderation given by Sir Gawain. Another intriguing aspect of this tale is the fraternity of knighthood.

I am interested in joining a sorority at the University of Arkansas because of the impact that cheerleading has brought upon my life. I cheered throughout High School and it was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. It taught me so much in and out of the gym! Being surrounded by girls who I experienced pain, happiness, hardship, teamwork, leadership, loyalty, and most importantly love completely changed my life!
