A standardize test is any form of a test that requires all its takers to answer questions chosen from a general bank of questions. Standardized testing is highly controversial topic with many people expressing both opinions on the subject. Even the creator of standardize testing has a surprising opinion. Studies have been done in many states to find out the benefits or detriments of the tests. The educational tests students take at the middle and end of their school year have been known to effect not only the students but also the teachers. Standardized Test while praised by some, have an equal amount of people that believe the test do more harm than good. Three studies: Boston, Minnesota, and New York have different results. In Minnesota the state issued its first set of assessments in the 2012-13 year. The scores on the tests showed were not well. Students’ over all scores in mathematics dropped slightly but the reading scores dropped significantly. Reading proficiency dropped from 76 percent to 58 percent while reading only dropped from a 62 to a 61 percent. Fourteen hundred eight graders in Boston were studied and while their test scores improved, it had no effect on a students’ fluid intelligence skills. The purpose of the Boston study, as said by John Gabrieli was “Our original question was this: If you have a school that’s effectively helping kids from lower socioeconomic environments by moving up their scores and improving their chances to go to college, then are those changes accompanied by gains in additional cognitive skills?” New York is like Minnesota in the fact that their tests scores dropped in math and English since starting Common Core aligned tests, another way of saying standardize
