Why Is Standardize Testing Important

Standardize testing is not a useful indicator of a students’ knowledge
Is standardize testing a true component to indicate whether a student has mastered the concepts in that particular subject? The answer to this question is no because most of the test are not particularly based on what they have learned throughout the year. The tests are based solely on what the state, county and federal government feels to be the most important. When a student proceeds to the next grade level, knowledge is lacked because of the emphasis on the standardize test itself. Teachers have to review material that they assume to be on the test instead of making sure students are retaining information. Standardize testing is not a useful indicator because some students do not perform well on tests, test create a false sense of security, and teachers over emphasize the test.

There are often things that are more appealing and useful to a student’s development in their future career but standardize test often lacks that information. The guidelines given to teachers are the basic requirements that teachers are required to meet that give students a fair chance at success. Based on the overall achievement of a student teachers are given a grade based how well the student performed on the test.”Some states are now considering plans that would give as much as 50% of the weight in teacher evaluation and compensation decisions to scores on existing tests of basic skills in math and reading (Shavelson 2010)”.
