The average U.S student will take over sixty standardized tests in their academic career. Factor in optional tests, which many colleges require, and that number can jump to over one hundred ("Number of Standardized Tests Public-school Students Take Exploded in past Decade."Islandpacket. Web. 16 Dec. 2015). Standardized tests require all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from a common bank. They must be answered in the same way and are scored in a “standard” or consistent manner. They became mandatory to take in 2002, when President George W. Bush passed the No Child left behind act. Although this act was made to help students, it has inevitably hurt them and the schools in many ways. Standardized tests should be taken out of schools because they cause students stress, they waste schools time and money, and the information they show is unnecessary. Tests have always been stressful for students, but even more pressure is being put on students to do well …show more content…

However, these tests do not help students. Standardized tests are causing students stress, which can lead to many serious illnesses. Along with stress, these tests can be the cause of bullying. For instance, if your score was deemed “too high” or “too low”. With all of these problems, there is no way that students are helped by standardized tests, and are therefore not worth the high amount they cost, in money and time ("Standardized Testing Is the Biggest Waste of Classroom Time Ever." If a teacher was asked who was falling behind in their class, and who does really well, they would not need to pull out files of standardized tests. The teacher would simply look at the system that has been used for years, grades. Grades are a fair way to easily compare students to one another, if this is not their purpose then why would we have
