ELECT is a guide for early childhood settings that supports the curriculum. It is continuously evolving as early childhood practitioners continue to use it. ELECT acts as a supportive tool that assists to meet the requirements that are expected of Ontario early childhood settings. It provides a range of developmental skills and a shared language that will assist early childhood practitioners and caregivers as they work together.
The Statement of Principles is based on beliefs, values, experience and current research findings.
The deliberations of the panel converged on six overarching principles that orient Early Learning for Every Child Today:

To quote Maria Montessori, “ It is true that we cannot make a genius. We can only give to teach child the chance to fulfil his potential possibilities.”.
It has always been said that first impressions are the most important, this holds true for the development of a child. The early years form the base for his learning for life. Given the right setting and stimuli he/she will achieve to their full potential.
It is important to work closely with families and the community to provide what is best for a child. As caregivers, it is important to know the family settings of a child to have a better understanding of how and why he behaves. eg. A shy child may be like that because he is at home most of the time and has very minimal interactions with children or anyone else beside his parents.
We live in a multicultural society, with a variety of customs and rituals around us. We must prepare the children to be accommodating and accepting of these as they step into the world.
I agree that there should be a plan, a routine set for the day, but it should not be rigid. It should be flexible and pliable to the needs of the child(ren), they may not be in the mind-frame to do what you had planned, they might have other ideas for the
