Statement of Interest

In May 2017, I graduated from the Moores School of Music with a Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance. I had every intention of pursuing a graduate degree in performance. However, it was not until I asked myself where I wanted to be in the next five years, that I became aware of which path I actually wanted to follow. While I do love to sing, performing is not what drives me toward a career in the arts. When I reflected back on my time as an undergraduate, I noticed that a lot of my most memorable moments did not include me being on stage. Instead, they were in the planning that happens before the performance. I found this to be an ongoing theme in my professional life as well. This realization is what led me to the Arts Leadership program. While I am uncertain of the exact job title I would like to hold, I know what I would like to do. My ideal position is one working in community outreach programs for arts organizations. I would like to be involved in something that includes putting together programs and fundraising events designed to help expose children to music and art. It is through my own experiences that I realized how the arts can help children perform better in school. It can help them during important developmental stages of cognitive functions. As a certified Kindermusik teacher, I have helped many children improve their speech and motor functions by using musical activities specifically designed for this purpose. My
