I aspire to become a freelance graphic designer. The day I opened my acceptance letter from Georgia Southern University, I was excited. Then I received my invitation to apply for the scholarships and I was ecstatic. I feel that I should be selected as a Georgia Southern Scholarship recipient because I am a dedicated candidate who values education and loves to learn.
I have always been an inquisitive person. My plans for the future have always included attending college and I have structured my high school career focusing on this path. As a result, by the end of my senior year, I will have earned 35 credits, which is 11 more than necessary to graduate from a South Carolina public high school. I have also achieved a class rank within the top eight percent of my graduating class because I treat my classes with utmost importance and aim to excel in everything I do. I have taken a rigorous course load including AP and honor classes in order to continue challenging myself. I found opportunities in digital media classes that would allow me to learn a variety of Adobe programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. These classes included the school’s print shop internship program. Although I was the only staff member who had not taken the prerequisite, my dedication and thirst for knowledge allowed me to quickly prove myself to the instructor and progress in the internship program. By the end of the year, I had learned how to design and create logos, buttons, keychains, and shirts for both the school community and for people around town.
