Embryonic stem cells should not be used in stem cell research. There are multiple better alternatives that can be used in place of the most common method of destroying embryos. Stem cell research is a highly controversial topic in today’s world. Stem cells are used to treat many diseases that seem to be incurable now. They implant the specific made cell into the patient in hopes to regenerate the diseased cells in the body. Many countries have decided to not fund any stem cell research. It is due to the fact that it is immoral to destroy something that has a potential to live. If something is immoral it can have a big impact on someone’s conscience. There is no need to kill something if it’s possible to find another way. It is scientifically proven that life begins at conception (Kelly Hollowell, 2002). Are you willing to kill a 3 year old for research? That is essentially what you’re doing when you take an embryo that has the chance to grow into a genius, president, or the next Beethoven and destroy it. We do not consider it appropriate to take organs from dying patients or prisoners on death row before they have died in order to increase someone else's chances for healing or cure. They have found adult stem cells in places where they thought were impossible such as the heart and brain. The opposing viewpoints say how easy and more common it is to get embryonic stem cells so we should just use them. They also say it is moral because it takes at least 14 days for an embryo to be considered life. This is wrong and is scientifically proven by animal cloning. As soon as a cell is cloned it is alive, so as soon as a cell is concepted it is alive.
