The Stetler Model of Evidence Based Practice was first established as the Stetler/Marram Model of Research Utilization. “The Stetler model has long been known as a practitioner-oriented model because of its focus on critical thinking and use of findings by the individual practitioner. The 2001 version provided clarification that this guided problem-solving process also applies to groups of practitioners engaged in Research Utilization/EBP” (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015, p. 245). This model facilitates the integration of evidence into practice, many individuals can be involved as contributors in this method, but a core group may be needed in planning the different stages of the model. It is used by healthcare institutions to guide system-wide implementation and sustainability of EBP to achieve quality outcomes. A very important strategy in the use of the ARCC model is the creation and use of the EBP mentor. The EBP mentor is an individual who has expert knowledge and skills in EBP and is passionate about helping others learn to practice using an evidence base. Mentors and clinicians work collaboratively to reduce barriers that are regularly encountered in daily practice. These mentors spearhead the initiative and help to foster the change by mentoring others. The use of mentors in this model is an important strategy in achieving success. This model gives healthcare institutions and clinical settings an organized conceptual framework that can drive organizational implementation and sustainability of the evidence based practices that are instituted which in turn will assist in achieving quality outcomes. The steps of this model are Assess, Link, Synthesize, Design, Implement and evaluate and Integrate and maintain. Several scales have been developed to measure the implementation of EBP using this model, one of these scales measures the organizations readiness and its EBP beliefs which is an important measurement when implementing change.in an
