Bands create venue posters as a way to draw you in. They want you to be intrigued, curious, and excited. Venue posters are a reflection of who that band is, and who they want you to think they are, and the message they are trying to get out. The colors and symbols used can strongly symbolize a band’s character and the type of music they create. Although the Strokes poster and the Tame Impala poster may have some similarities, the differences in these two posters strongly reflect the differences in the music genres the bands belong to, and the attitudes of their music. The color schemes used in both posters directly reflect the type of music the band plays and the attitudes they express. The Strokes are an alternative rock band and the dark colors really show off an alternative style. They use red and black to show this, while using yellow to emphasize the band name and information. Not only do these colors show the alternative genre, they also show the darker style that the Strokes embody as a band. The Strokes use a black and red roaring tiger as their animal image. This tiger symbolizes the loud, intense, and strong sound of their music. Other than a visual representation of the sound, the tiger does not seem to have any other significance other than visual appeal. Oh the other hand, Tame Impala uses a large tusked elephant as their animal image. The elephant is strong yet gentle like their music and their message. This elephant consists of a collage of bright colors in a pattern different than the background. Unlike the Strokes poster, this animal image actually has a meaning. The Elephant is symbolizing the song “Elephant” that the band released in 2012. Even though the elephant was large, it seems more subtle than the tiger in the Strokes poster, the same type of subtle differences can be seen in their text
