A student-athlete, a man of principle, and a Beta; these three traits compose my personality. When asked, no matter by whom, I elaborate on these three attributes because they exemplify who I am. Everyday, I strive to put my full effort into anything I do. Despite expectations, I don’t do it to please others. The motivation is purely intrinsic; hard work is rewarding and the respective outcomes are satisfying. I believe fully in the saying, “the more you put in, the more you get out.” Relating to this expression, a quote I learned from the Wooden Institute comes to mind, “Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of being.” This quote, said by John Wooden, is a motto I try to live by. Along with a double major in marketing and economics, I am the president, captain, and a member of the University of Idaho Lacrosse Team. I stepped into the presidency role when the opportunity presented itself at the end of my freshman year. Although inexperienced of the inner-workings of the club, I viewed the opportunity as a valuable learning experience, which it has proved to be. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I was elected into a captain’s position by my coach and team. While participating in lacrosse, I have managed to make the Dean’s list the past three semesters, with a 3.85 cumulative GPA, while taking 17-18 credits per semester. In school, I am also part of the executive board of Vandal Solutions as the manager of finance. Vandal Solutions is a student run marketing firm in the College of Business and Economics. We work with clients in the Palouse area and receive, on average, $15,000 of revenue each year. Although not a finance or accounting major, my position is to track money by recording revenues and expenditures. Next semester, I will be taking over the Vice President of Finance. In addition to all of this, I will be traveling to France, Italy, and Switzerland this summer as part of a study abroad experience. I will be taking six credits in four weeks at one of Europe’s most prestigious business schools. With all the opportunities I’m given in both lacrosse and school, I have willingly put in …show more content…
This trait holds a very important place in my life. Out of any experience through college, this has, by far, been the most valuable. The Gamma Gamma chapter of Beta has played a vital role in my personality development, academic success, and life, in general. Without the house, I wouldn’t be doing anything I am now. To elaborate, older members in my chapter convinced me to come to the University of Idaho, play lacrosse, informed me about Vandal Solutions, and recommended studying abroad. Every attribute that I define myself with has branched from members within this house. As for participation, from the beginning, I was elected vice president and received the first (lowest) roll number in my pledge class. After initiation, I was nominated for seven out of the nine cabinet positions and elected into the brotherhood chair role. In this role, along with being a participant in cabinet, I also served on Kai board. During the summer, I attended the Wooden Leadership Conference in Oxford, Ohio. In the future, I plan on running for another position on cabinet and hopefully advancing to executive board in the year following. Through this chapter and my participation, Beta and the members have given me a variety of incredible opportunities I will be eternally grateful
