It is so important to use collaboration to develop and implement school wide positive behavioral interventions and supports to conduct functional behavioral assessments and develop effective behavioral intervention plans. When implementing school wide positive behavioral interventions collaboration is used to collect data from multiple sources and to learn as much about the child and their background and triggers that may lead to misbehavior. Together all of these individuals can create goals and supports to help manage and prevent the behaviors in order to enhance the educational experience of the child and their academic performance. The team also checks the effectiveness of plans to help the child by monitoring data and using observations and feedback. A multidisciplinary team collaborates in order to create a functional behavioral assessment. The FBA measures student behavior to try to understand the behavior and what may cause or trigger different behavior. The team can include the students teachers, professionals, experts in different areas, family members of the child and any other professionals and community resources that can offer input and suggestions. (Salend, 2016, pg 258) The team works together to try to record and analyze the behavior of the child. Behavioral intervention plans are also developed through collaboration of a multidisciplinary team. The BIP plans interventions to help manage the misbehavior. This can be done by talking to students and trying to see what their interests are and how their interests can be incorporated into the classroom. This can also be done by using class interviews and surveys. In high school, on the first day of school, one of the teachers asked us to share three things about ourselves and everyone had to share with the class. Other teachers had us fill out surveys to get to know us. Teachers should also be positive and welcoming to all students and try to build up their self-esteem. The textbook suggests planning activities or lessons that allow students to display their skills and interests. (Salend, 2016, pg check page ) Teachers should use praise when students demonstrate their knowledge or use good behavior strategies, this allows students to feel valued. Teachers can also teach students stress management techniques. I think this is extremely important because there are many times as a student where I felt overwhelmed with classwork and preparing to apply for colleges. A good idea could be allowing students a few minutes to get out of their seat, stretch, and move around before returning to work. This may help students focused better. My school also offered yoga during gym class, which I found extremely helpful in finding time to relax during the school day. Peer
