Should Good Students Get Paid for Good Grades?
Do you think that good students should receive cash for their good grades? Is it unfair to others who don’t get good grades? Even though it may seem unfair to their other classmates and peers, it is a parent’s decision to give their student(s) money for their good grades. Many people believe it is a worthwhile idea to pay students money for their good grades because it motivates them to excel, rewards them for their hard work, and teaches them responsibility and the value of money.
How would you like it if you were forced to go to work, but never received a paycheck? Or if you received a paycheck, you never received a promotion, except one every year with no benefits just more work, or a bonus? It would make going to work a gloomy thing. In other words, they think that the student(s) being paid will focus more on the money and what they could buy, than what they are learning. It is true that some will focus on the money more than schoolwork, but doesn’t that happen now, with those who get an allowance? On the other hand, there are those students who focus more on the schoolwork, than any reward they may receive.
Another thought to those who disagree with this idea of paying students for good grades, have is that their payment and motivation should be the prospect of a good education and a good career. Is this really in the mind of upper elementary, middle school, and lower high school students? It probably isn’t, so shouldn’t there be a reward that causes a difference
