In the book, “Rereading America,” written by Toni Cade Bambara along with Gary Colombo and Robert Cullen, Bambara focuses on the challenges and desire to teach by contras of what you don’t have and what you can achieve. (Bambara, pg. 253-259) It is without doubt that even though a cookie cutter theory is used in most schools; there will be certain social economical neighborhoods in which a teacher or adult will have to vary the process of communication in order to get his or her point across with dedication and teach the love for learning. Ms. Moore had been a wise educated woman who did not avoid the challenging attitudes of children going up in a disadvantaged economical community.
Within his essay, “Still Separate, Still Unequal”, Jonathan Kozol details the methodical resurgence of segregation amongst the inner-city school districts from civilization. Further, extending the definition passed its racial limitations by observing a diverse faction of both students and school officials. Therefore, engulfing him in a world filled with dilapidated facilities and scripted vocabularies that are designed to manage how teachers develop students into profitable citizens. Subsequently, navigating Kozol to conclude that if the nation’s inequalities are still gradually dictating the value of an individual’s education. Then that said person within the new interpretation of segregation has lost something more than education, they have lost their childhood.

Introduction Paragraph Revised: Segregation not only stands as a hindrance when attempting to gain an education it also can be found harmful to one’s mentality. The word segregation in most cases means a separation between different backgrounds whether it be racial, ethical, or even religious. Segregation, however, is not as simple as the definition portrays. Segregation had been the very plague to root itself from not only within our nation but also inside of each of us. Even to this very day, segregation finds itself creeping into our now reformed society.
A trend is developing in Connecticut’s public schools that is causing, according to the dictionary definition of segregation, the isolation of the races with dived educational facilities” (Eaton, 2007; 96). However, “state legislature often moved slowly didn’t comply” (Eaton, 2007; 89). In other words, the state and federal governments had better policies and programs that “encourage the cooperation, the integration, if you will, of municipalities to the larger metropolitan region” (Eaton, 2007; 353). Which is explaining how government tends to do nothing to end with this segregation ideas. For example, the idea of president Trump to deport all immigrants and bring America back to what it was before all these people came to take away jobs and opportunities from his people.
America’s educational institutions continue to evolve in order to provide “the one best system” that will benefit students in their present and future educational endeavors. The One Best System written by David B. Tyack, interprets the challenges and criticisms of America’s beginning formal education institutions as well as discusses how the solutions were used to perpetuate existing power structures and social classes to shape education entirely. As the idea of educating America’s children began to spread, schools were viewed as a community due to the tightly knit groups that were formed among individuals. Consequently, they are casted into the streets, which ultimately sends them into juvenile detentions or into prison. The problem of racial and ethnic disproportionality in the discipline of schools is not new issue. In 1974, in one of the earliest investigations of disciplinary policies and practices, “the Children’s Defense Fund revealed that suspension rates for African American students were between two and three times higher than those for white students”( Thomas Rudd February 05, 2015) Ongoing research are still showing that in many places, this problem have worsened significantly.
Racial Bias in the United States The United States is home of many diverse ethnicities that come here to live the American Dream. Although they are legal immigrants, white americans still treat them as a minority group. There is still racial bias here that is causing tensions between ethnic groups despite all the efforts to stop it.
It was my first day at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ). I entered the building and silence rippled through the hall and hung in the air like heavy fog until a sharp whisper cut through. “It’s a black guy.” Those were the first four words I heard in high school and those four words have stuck with me for the past three and a half years. TJ is no stranger to the issue of race; race has been a dark stain on the history of my high school, most notably when it came under investigation by the NAACP in 2012 for disparities in admissions.
The educational system in America contains numerous racial disparities that affects the very core of the children who is suppose to benefit from education. This disparity comes in many forms in primary schools, a teacher’s attitude being one of them (Epps, 1995). A teacher’s attitude in a classroom consisting of a racially diverse children is a large contributing factor to the academic success of their students, more specifically, the minority African American students. It is a given that all schools should employ qualified teacher who are passionate about their students and the quality of education they provide to these students. Unfortunately, that is not the case for many urban schools that house a large proportion of African American students
4.2 Benefits Anti- bias curriculum is essentially optimistic work about for our children’s future. Anti-bias education in NAEYC has four core goals, each of the goals applies to children of all backgrounds and influences of the programs. Firstly, support children’s self- awareness, confidence, family pride and positive social identities. As children develop a strong sense of both individual and group identity. Secondly, each child will express comfort and joy with human diversity, accurate language for human differences and deep caring human connections.
A school should be the first place where racial differences should be overlooked and yet the school system wants to categorize its students by race. If a school is allowed to segregate its students, how are we the people supposed to be non discriminative? If we can’t get ethnicity forms out of schools to put a halt to the segregation in the schools, how does America claim to have gotten away from their discrimination and segregation times? America as a country needs to stop organizing and categorizing itself through
Bias is prejudice about someone or something which has been created based on incomplete information. More often bias has a negative effect as it affects other people, our way of thinking that could be driven into stereotypes frame. Every day we face with a huge number of biases and some of us even do not know about the existence of them. If it gets to that point when something suffers from it, people need to overcome biases. There are a lot of examples of biases in our world.
