I am Mariah Stephens and I am a Talented and Gifted 7th grader at Walker Mill Middle School and TAG Center in Capitol Heights, Maryland. I am 13 years old and I have been in the TAG program for about 5 years. I do not recall taking the test to get into TAG, but I do remember being accepted in 3rd grade. I was in class one day when someone called me and two or three of my classmates to the door. She handed us envelopes that said we were accepted into TAG. At the time, I didn’t know what it meant to be in TAG, but now I am grateful for the opportunities being in TAG has brought me. This makes it easier for me to get into high school programs that I am interested in than if I weren’t in TAG. Being in these programs in the future will allow me to develop my talents and become the best student I can be. They will also help me in my future because they will better prepare me for college. Currently, my school’s TAG program is developing my talents by pushing me to do my best in various subject areas. This is done through different projects and a different curriculum made for TAG students. Maza. She has helped me develop my talents by making it easy for me to learn and better develop my skills as a writer. Ms. Maza made learning difficult concepts easy and simple with her interactive activities and bright personality. This was helpful for me because it is easier for me to learn when I am putting the skills I am learning into practice than if I didn’t practice the skills.
