One of the earliest childhood memories I can remember is playing teacher and forcing my eager little sister to be my “student”. I remember using an unused, old wooden desk in our basement as the center point of my make-believe classroom and printing out worksheets as homework for my three-year old little sister. I was in first grade when I decided I wanted to teach when I grew up. I always knew that I wanted a career where I would be making a difference in people’s lives, and even at six years old I knew that teaching is what I was meant to do.
Fast forward eleven years later, and I am still wishing to further my education past high school and become a high school social studies teacher. I plan to fill my aspiration of becoming a teacher at Indiana University. I will be working to earn a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. …show more content…

This program allows aspiring teachers to spend a semester away from home and gain real-world experience in three different cultural programs. My goal is to participate in the urban program where I would spend sixteen weeks as a student teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. By being a part of this program I hope to develop vital skills that would help me reach my dream of making an impact in the lives and education of students. Teaching students from a variety of backgrounds would also give me a unique and valuable perspective on how to teach students from different cultures. I would bring these vital skills and new perspective to my own classroom and hopefully one day Tell City High
