Throughout my life, I have had many experiences that have had incredible influences on me as an individual, along with inspiring my future goals and ambitions as a teacher. Even though I have had a few rough spots through my educational life, all the information and perspective that I have gained has been vital in creating my ambition for learning and passion in refining my abilities and using them to improve my community and the lives of my students.
During my educational experience, I have had many teachers that have played major parts in developing my personal academic passions and gifts. One of which, and most important, was my high school math and upper science teacher. She has been teaching for some time, and was interested in either retiring from teaching or taking an offer to teach at the college level. She had asked three others from my class if they were interested in “taking her place”, but they all knew what they wanted to go to college for. This left the rest of us to teach one another. I gained much experience in “tutoring” in math and physics, and this is where I believe that my passion for teaching first ignited. After closer observation of my time as a student, I began to find what I would say are flaws in the teaching styles that were used while I was in high school. What I found to be one of my least favorite teaching style was used by my history/government teacher. He had each student read a heading section of the chapter section, summarize, write them on the board, and then copy what was on the board. After covering so many chapters, he would test us on them.
