Teaching Philosophy Statement

Many people tend to ask me why I selected teaching and my response is simply because it gives me an opportunity to change someone’s life. Throughout much of my years there has been a constant struggle to figure out my purpose in life. Will I be remembered when I’m gone as a good person or a horrible greedy one? Truth is that teaching gives me the chance to change a life and I do not want to be striving for riches, but instead create opportunities to save lives. I love kids and seeing someone succeed due to hard work and dedication is something I have always admired and enjoyed witnessing. I see myself in them and remember how I always wished there was someone who could guide me to a better life, but luckily my friend saved me. Some students are not so fortunate like me and what I want to be is that wish for them. I want to be someone they can trust and look up to. In all honesty, I could become a lawyer or a doctor if I wanted to, but instead I chose this profession because this is where I belong. Of course I may never become a millionaire doing this, but for me it has never been about the money. It has always been about changing and saving lives. Every teacher’s goal at the end of the day will be to get these students to pass the state exams and certainly it will be one of my goals. It is in my view, very important they keep moving on towards a better future, but my main goal is much more than helping students pass a state exam. I want students to all have the opportunity to go to college, and for those that choose not to, I want them to take what they learned from me into the real world. It is my job to help these students realize their full potential. Everyone has the talent and attributes to be great in my opinion, but what sometimes students lack is confidence and the eye opening wonders this world has to offer. Learning is such a beautiful process that can open doors to infinite careers. I want my students to learn how to reason and think for themselves because when they are able to do that, I promise you, America will become much stronger. Education is the key and the problems we face today can easily be fixed, but we have to find the root cause of the problem and I believe it starts in school. Whether you are Black, White, Hispanic, or Asian, it is my goal to help every student succeed and go beyond their wildest dreams. Inspiration is what they need to succeed. I do not want any of the fame nor awards for being a good teacher because what really matters are the students, not my own personal achievement. I want to be someone they can look up to and admire. It takes hard work, dedication, and sacrifice to
