A large group of students in the United States makeup a large population of English language learners. Students who are considered English language learners undergo many challenges in their education, and without the necessary support and resources from their educators it can make it hard for them to succeed. A teacher plays a significant role in the success of a child, and it is crucial for them to be able to provide the proper education to students whose first language is not English. It is also very important for teachers to understand the challenges that these students are facing. Having empathy towards the students allows for the teacher to create better connections and relationships to better help them.
I am currently teaching at Swainston Middle School in North Las Vegas. Our student population is very diverse, including English Language Learners (ELLs). During this time as a teacher, I have served students with different language needs. It has been my goal to engage ELL students in my lessons as every other student. It is my opinion that as teachers we are all language teachers.
A1. Why do you want to teach science, math, bilingual, English, or ESL in New York City? (150 words) I feel I will be able to exhibit the significance of Math in everyday life. The math that adults use to pay bills, manage a budget, tax preparation, as well as other things are significant.
What do you currently teach and where? I am a December graduate of the University of Charleston. I graduated magna cum laude. After graduation I began substituting. I substituted at a variety of schools in Kanawha County in a variety of grades.
In the workforce, there are a lot of different aspects to take account for, there are the financial, management, planning, skills, work habits, labor issues, technology, and health/safety. Each job; no matter where you go will have these exact angles of the job. Being a teacher is a perfect example that symbolizes these traits of a job. A teacher is not just guiding students at the right path to success; it’s about the planning, working together with the other teacher in your grade, or subject. It’s about managing and keeping the students safe at all times.
Jonan Holbrook, Janice Carter, and Jesse Robinson are three monumental factors that inspired me to become an educator. Through their own unique approaches to education, each of these teachers have significantly influenced my life and my decision to become a teacher. From reading books inside of a big, red bathtub in kindergarten to writing about the Civil Rights Movement in eighth grade, each of these teachers have provided me with an unmatched level of inspiration and support that has motivated me to accomplish many goals in life, including becoming a teacher. As a shy kindergartener, I had no clue how quickly my attention would become captivated by the charismatic and loving personality of my kindergarten teacher, Jonan Holbrook.
I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was young. When I was in second grade I wanted to be a teacher so that I could write on the whiteboards. However, now that I still see teaching as a great career choice for me I want to teach for different reasons. I absolutely love to work with kids, and to see how they learn and grow. One example on how I was able to realize I love to see children learning and growing is through a Staff Development Program.
As a teacher, my role is to help every student succeed. To achieve this goal I will teach the students according to their needs so all learners feel capable of success. I will present material that is of interest to the students and will help them become knowledgeable members of society. I will integrate projects, group work, individual work, hands-on work, and class discussion into my curriculum. I will help my students become active learners.
Throughout my eighteen years in public education I have learned that teaching kids is one of the most rewarding professions in the world. I truly believe that teachers make the most impact on creating a society that is positive and self-sustaining for not only this generation, but for many generations to come. We instill confidence and give students hope that with commitment, sacrifice, and a strong will to succeed that we can accomplish just about anything we put our minds and hearts to. This is why I teach and want to continue to be in the field of education.
I have established and employed my philosophy of teaching through leading discussion-based classes associated with a Freshman Seminar course at Mercer University, organizing and leading weekly tutoring sessions, and serving as the educational liaison for the past 12 years that involved daily instruction, tutoring, assessment of skills and learning styles, and academic recommendations, and as a mentor to undergraduate students. Coming from a student-centered teaching perspective, my most important objective as a teacher is to challenge and inspire my students to think about and engage their world. Looking out into the crowd, I saw my mother and grandmother with smiling faces and tears running down their cheeks. This was the moment that we had been imagining and the moment I had been pushing myself to attain over the last for years in High School. As the announcer said my name I walked to the podium and accepted my diploma. This was the most meaningful moment of my life. Now I am one step closer to completing my goal as becoming a teacher.

Students have different academic needs and it is the responsibility of the teacher to meet every single one of them. My instructional goal is to create my lesson plans and assessments in a way that all students can be engage in the class. I have to keep in mind that every student is different and that I need to use different strategies so that they can be engage in the class. They are some students that learn through auditory channels and some others throughout visual aids. As a teacher, I would need to use different strategies to help my students in their process of learning.
My goal of teaching is to help students learn to appreciate the beauty of mathematics and to develop the ability to analyze and then solve problems. It is critical for studying mathematics to understand the profound ideas hiding behind the concepts and theories. I try to illustrate the original ideas such as how mathematicians think and solve problems. Also, a successful classroom consists of enthusiastic students ready to participate in discussions. The students should feel always comfortable in asking questions whenever having confusion or comments.
There are many people in this world that inspire me to be what I want to be when I get older. For Example, Doctor, firefighter, police, dentist, and scientist are all successful things that will get you somewhere in life. But, Being a teacher is a career that allows you to inspire little kids and get them started on what they want to be when they grow up. The best school I thought of to go for teaching is university of Cincinnati.
