A large group of students in the United States makeup a large population of English language learners. Students who are considered English language learners undergo many challenges in their education, and without the necessary support and resources from their educators it can make it hard for them to succeed. A teacher plays a significant role in the success of a child, and it is crucial for them to be able to provide the proper education to students whose first language is not English. It is also very important for teachers to understand the challenges that these students are facing. Having empathy towards the students allows for the teacher to create better connections and relationships to better help them.
The purpose for students to go through so many stages to reach their goal of becoming a teacher is to make them more informed and experienced about their career. The professional dispositions allow the students to know how to behave professionally, be ethically professional towards their students as well as colleagues, personally develop their skills as a preservice candidate, and successfully go through the all the stages to become a teacher. In my experiences from K-12, I have never considered a teacher to be unprofessional to my peers or myself. A teacher who comes to school dressed accordingly for work is considered professional.
What do you currently teach and where? I am a December graduate of the University of Charleston. I graduated magna cum laude. After graduation I began substituting. I substituted at a variety of schools in Kanawha County in a variety of grades.
I first wanted to become a teacher when I was younger. I loved the idea of teacher younger children. During high school I went back and forth between nursing and teaching. I began tutoring Kindergarteners through the Teen Leadership Corporation at our school and fell in love with helping younger children. Although I have thought about the job security in teaching the main reason I am determined to become a teacher is working with youth.
I want to be a teacher because I love working with children. I have wanted to pursue a career in primary education for a few years now. I have also enjoyed my studies in history and wish to pursue a major in it. I have a love of children and interacting with them at their own level appeals to me. I am interested in gaining insight in their perceptions and how they see the world.
I believe it is a teacher’s job to spark a curiosity for learning from their students. I want to teach so I can spark many children’s curiosity for education. I believe I am a dependable and motivated person and I am excited to teach and bring excitement in to the classroom. Every student has had a different experience with going to school before coming into my class and I want to make sure that for my students I make their learning experience as positive as possible, and they master as many skills as possible.
My philosophy is constantly evolving as I grow as a teacher. As I continue to learn, along with my students, I try to remain open-minded and willing to grow as a teacher. As society and best practices continue to be molded and shaped, I too will be like clay and continue to mold myself to be the best version I can be for my kids. For me, the most important part of teaching children is caring; our children are the future of this world.
To be a good teacher I would like my students to learn from me the qualities of motivation, a good personality, kindness and sympathy I have the responsibility of forming an excellent future in the lives of young children. With this responsibility I as a teacher, must work on everything related to the education of children to be considered "a good teacher." Therefore, to set a good example as a teacher towards students and to learn, is to motivate them to always have something new to learn. In this way it would always be pushing students to want to do their best by creating an interesting and creative learning environment.
It’s another day of sitting through seven periods. Seven hours. Seven classes. You find yourself in a hard desk daydreaming about your future. You think to yourself, “how is chemistry going to help me with my future in graphic designing.”
As a student, when you enter into a school or a typical day in a classroom, you don’t think twice about the job or task assigned to you for the day. You don’t think much about your surroundings, a teaching style, or the needs and challenges others face. Why? We are conditioned to this environment; we are brought up with certain expectations and assumptions of school that is now only second nature to us. We get absorbed into our own world, most always thinking about ourselves, rather than others.
I have always had thoughts about how I want to be as a teacher, but never really knew how to put it into words. I know that I want to be a teacher that is kind and has true compassion for her students and their learning experiences. I want to instill excitement in the children and make learning fun. In my preschool classroom, I want to try and be as organized as possible even though I am not always the most organized person.
My goal of teaching is to help students learn to appreciate the beauty of mathematics and to develop the ability to analyze and then solve problems. It is critical for studying mathematics to understand the profound ideas hiding behind the concepts and theories. I try to illustrate the original ideas such as how mathematicians think and solve problems. Also, a successful classroom consists of enthusiastic students ready to participate in discussions. The students should feel always comfortable in asking questions whenever having confusion or comments.
As a future educator, I believe that in addition with lectures and seminars combined with multiple hands on experiences, I can become a knowledgeable teacher. Since I have completed all of my course work with some hands on experiences, I have enough tools in my toolbox to start student teaching. From the new experiences I get including, constructive feedback, positive or negative, I will be able to take all of this experience and make it into a great learning opportunity that I will carry along with me through my teaching career. I believe, that three specific qualities will lend me to be a successful teacher.
It is my firm belief that my students should be exposed to a quality education. As an educator, I will keep in mind that in the field of learning there is always new information on teaching and learning. So, it my job to keep a breath with information and technology that relates to the learning and teaching process. I also believe that as a teacher it is my responsibility for making certain that my students are given a fair opportunity to learn.
My prime directive as a teacher is to empower my students to live satisfying and productive lives. I want to help them develop three sets of skills — interpersonal, organizational and communication — that will help them in every profession and all areas of life. As a teacher, I get to teach someone else’s young adult child about the world and show them how to navigate it. My goal is to positively impact their lives and make them feel good about themselves while also teaching them English and debate. I genuinely enjoy being with them and especially love the most difficult of all ages — namely, 18+ teenagers.
