As a student, when you enter into a school or a typical day in a classroom, you don’t think twice about the job or task assigned to you for the day. You don’t think much about your surroundings, a teaching style, or the needs and challenges others face. Why? We are conditioned to this environment; we are brought up with certain expectations and assumptions of school that is now only second nature to us. We get absorbed into our own world, most always thinking about ourselves, rather than others. However, there are many factors that contribute to a successful educational experience. I observed an art class that was all about auditory learning. She allowed phones to be a source of learning. Music was played to provide calm, focused atmospheres, no lecture was provided, just a syllabus, and a student’s self desire to succeed. Three different history classes used a plethora of different teaching styles; smart boards and textbooks were a way to attract the visual learner while lecturing, pod casts, and collaborative groups, were the means of auditory teaching. Teachers also used labs, drawings, and artwork, exhibiting the tactile style of learning to encourage a student. Discussions I found were specifically made and generated by using groups to provide better opportunities to understand and synthesis new ways of thinking and answers. Groups were common within three of the history classes in order to review test material and participation. I observed a biology class where the teacher specifically called on every student for answers and participation. He provided three different learning styles and allowed relaxed due dates on assignments so each student can move at their own pace. I found teachers were careful with words and presentations more so than ever. Watching for any signs of offensive reactions, teachers made sure they were clear when the spoke so every type of student could understand fully what he was asking. Religion was covered in both “Art History” and “World History Honors” however; it was used for historical and educational purposes rather than preaching. Every teacher teaches different, teachers face diversity all the time and adapt in so many ways, the best they can. Not every student is 100 percent happy with the way our education is taught all the time. It’s our job, however, as educators, to try. As a potential teacher, especially in the future, I hope to incorporate all styles and techniques to teaching. I want to make sure all students have an equal
