Teaching Philosophy Statement
For students to learn, they must feel engaged and excited about the topic being discussed. In the biological science, this can be an even bigger hill to climb as in many cases students either do not want to learn the material or they just want to focus on getting the right answer. Furthermore, the concepts and ideas in biology can be difficult for students to grasp particularly at the higher education level as many times students did not get the necessary preparation for college sciences while they were in secondary school. To traverse this hill and get students engaged, it has been my personal goal to make sure that I make biology as interesting and informative as I can and maintain the level of enthusiasm I have for the science so that my passion can branch out to other students. …show more content…

Botany is not my field of study, and it was also not a subject that I was completely familiar with. Through the process of having to learn the subject along with my students, I felt I could understand their grievances and clarify their confusions. I feel like in many cases professors and lecturers can forget how to communicate their topics to their students and forget what it was like to be in their shoes. My aim as a teaching assistant is to make the knowledge accessible to students, while still maintaining its accuracy and some degree of difficulty. Information should not be dumbed down to the point it loses meaning or is presented incorrectly; however, it is critical that the ideas and education get presented to students in a way they can understand. The less accessible the information is to a student, the less likely they will be to enjoy and appreciate the
