As an undergraduate student of the College of Arts and Sciences, I first and foremost, aspire to gain knowledge in the molecular biology field in hopes of applying it to my research. Out of all subjects I have taken as a high school student, the one that has interested me the most is biology. My passion for biology was ignited by my seventh grade science teacher. Biology was not my favorite subject prior to her class but doing hands-on dissections and learning more about the intricate human body initiated a curiosity about the world around me. What really moved me was how complex the human body was, even down to the cellular level. Considering how far science has come, it amazed me how many basic processes in the human body are not fully understood. …show more content…

With this passion, I want to learn how to solve biological problems through the application of the scientific process and be able to present results of biological experiments in a methodical manner. The study of biology has a profound impact on society, and it is vital to understand the ethical, environmental, and social issues which affect humanity and the Earth as a whole. Aside from the knowledge I gain from my courses, I hope to gain experience through assisting in research. Research will allow me to expand my studies and use my knowledge to study real-life biological problems. The College of Arts and Sciences provides undergraduate students with invaluable hands-on research experiences that they would not be able to obtain elsewhere. Through mentorship and lab experience, I will be able to hone in on skills that will be paramount as I progress towards doctoral level
